Is a Ducati monster 620 really too much bike for a newbie? |
| A:(from George R) | |
|
Terse answer: Yes. Yes it is. Long answer: Ducati's are, above all else, Italian bikes. This means that, undeterred by the sexy, sexy body, not only are repairs going to be expensive, they are irrevocable. Heck, Motorcyclist Magazine can't even keep Duc's in their long qualifications fleet; They spend too many days in the shop! Plus, those Ducati clutches are notoriously finicky to ride with on the streets. Plus, as has been said elsewhere, you WILL drop it / crash it / mar it in some way. It is simply the way it is. This is not an indication of your skills in any way, but it only takes one ignorant and innattentive cager to pinch up your day. My advice? If you must own a sportbike first (as I did), look for a lightly used one, in the 500-600cc travel over. The 250's really do get old very fast, but don't go out and buy a CBR600RR either. Look for something moderate, like a Katana or even, if you have the up to snuff, a Ninja 650R. They offer good power, a gradual culture curve, plentiful and cheap replacement parts, and a great traffic more comfort than a race-replica bike. Welcome to the sport, my man. See you on the approach!

Which is a better bike, a Ducati Monster 620 or a Kawasaki Ninja 650r? |
| A:(from Knowitall) | |

For a dependable low maintenance bike with more horse power go with the Kawasaki. For all other reasons go with a Ducati. What other reasons are there? Variety loyalty I guess. I also have a couple days experience and have not personally bought into either one. That means I don’t contain allegiance to either. I have ridden both and they are both fun to ride. I rode my friends Ducati Monster and pointed out it was seething oil the second week he owned it. He was not happy and he ended up getting the mechanism replaced. The maintenance on the Ducati was also expensive and ridiculous. Changing internal motor belts, what’s that about? It also require inspection after inspection adding up to more $$. Jap bike stipend = change oil. After 6 month my friend had his Duc in the shop 4x. He had gotten better as a rider so I let him tour my bike. He sold the Duc the next week and now has a Suzuki. This is really personal theory. I like the look of the monster but I would go with the Kawi. Have fun picking your bike!
