Part III: Cams and the valvetrain

I’m present to describe the actions and functions of the valvetrain in order to explain some offing information about how the demands of the elliptical-shaped cam lobes shift to their respective valves.
The Valvetrain
The lifter’s roller, which rolls over the egg-shaped cam lobe, spins on an axle located on the lowest part of the strong or hydraulic lifter (also known as a tappet). Solid lifters are solely that, a solid connection between the cam lobe and the pushrod it actuates. However, a hydraulic lifter uses pressurized engine oil to motivate itself up, so it can reduce lash (gaps) between mating parts. This increases engine competence and reduces engine noise. Gaps are created between parts as the engine heats up and expands or cools and contracts.
The balled deign end of the pushrod sits in a mating seat on the top of the hydraulic lifter. The pushrod extends from the top of the gearcase, up into the bottom of the overhanging allocate of the head, which is on the right side. The pushrod is encased in an chrome pushrod cover (tube) to keep dirt out and lubricating oil in. Stock Twin Cam pushrods are a immobilized length, which means you have to remove the top of the rocker box and some of the rocker conclave to remove them. Aftermarket performance pushrods, on the other hand, are adjustable for tranquillity of installation. These adjustable pushrods also accommodate higher take away, performance camshafts. (Interestingly -- and for reasons I cannot divine, except as a cost saving measure -- the H-D CVO 110” engines use ownership Twin Cam fixed-length pushrods. I discuss this at in detail in the second book in my series Donny’s Unauthorized Polytechnic Guide to Harley-Davidson 1936-2008.) The balled upper end of the pushrod fits into a mating area in one end of its rocker arm, which swivels up and down on a rocker arm shaft for a distance like to the cam lobe...

Harley offer 95", 103" and 110" kits for around $1200- $2300. You get heads , cam, etc. Never disencumber the flywheel. Don't polish the intake, swirl it. Harley are good performers, very torquey. Kyle knows nothing about bikes, in in reality his mom won't let him get one yet Why weaken a good torquey flywheel? Why polish a EFI intake? You brighten exhaust manifolds not intakes. The idea is to get the fuel into a mist, not a big let go of.( which is what you get when you polish) When you swirl it you get smaller drops. This cut of bike has a specific market. Some folks like "old latest thing" or "old school" choppers and this would probably fit into that catagory. What you might do is go to Ebay Motors and see if you find any "customs" correspond to to your bike, with similar custom offerings, i.e. hard tail, engine appraise, mileage and condition, custom chrome, etc. The other option would be to take it to a custom fabricating rat on and have them give you a ball park appraisal. Not a trade in appraisal, just for what amount would they deem reselling a bike like yours. There would need to be something really special for the bike to be significance significantly more than what a 1974 Softail with a 65 CU IN engine. Without seeing it up close and special, that's about all I can tell you. Hope this info helps!
