Chris, I have a transcript of the October ‘07 issue that featured your Knucklehead enlarge. I have a 1981 Shovel that I would like to build with that same look. In the article it mentions that the context had no stretch and a 40-degree neck, but then it said that the scaffolding was not right for the 200mm rear tire. My question is, was the new skeleton the same stretch and rake as the first one? I like the look you've created with that setup. The only preoccupation I want to change is perhaps a 250 rear tire. On the springer front end, is that Paughco's brand for a 9”-over? Some venders list overall length rather than amount over sheep. I have looked on Paughco’s web site, and I believe the frame is 128S5BW and the springer is N179-9. Any info you could forth on this project would be appreciated. I look forward to the magazine each month and like the detail that goes into your publication. Keep up the great work.

Dan, the gal Friday frame I used (#139S5BW) has the same rake with no stretch as the first one. And, if homage serves me right, it takes a 200mm rear ring with a chain drive. I don’t know which one is for a 250 tire. I’d call Jason at Paughco and scone through all this with him. He was extremely helpful in getting me the right frame after I ordered the peculiar one. As for the front end (N179-6), it is 6”-over with 3 degrees of rake in the triple trees. The many for Paughco is 800/423-2621, while the web site is Paughco Inc.. I hope this helps, Dan. there are tons of things you can do to your bike to deliver the goods a succeed it go faster. get to know names like zipper and storz; they both specialize in making sportsters go fastened. dont listen to the cotch-rocketeers when they tell you harleys are untrustworthy and slow. yes they are dinosuar technology. and we like it that way :-) sportsters hang on to land speed records in their class, and when you compare apples to apples they absorb their own against anything out there. join the yahoo sportster ownersgroup and fire away with your questions. there are lotsa cooperative folks there who will point you in the right direction. also go to www.sportster.org and read the incredible amount of info there. these are the guys that set the realty speed recordfor our class! dude, 5K is a BIG budget for making a sportster go faster. HAVE FUN!!

I have a set of Rinehart Racing pipes on my 2003 Sportster. Everyone tells me it's very loud, but I haven't heard that yet - you know how different things unscathed ON the bike. Mine is built up too, compression makes a difference in sound - so do the cams. But I like it a lot, so do other people - the people who don't like it, don't event. I bought, cut up, and built a sweet two into one pipe for mine from a Buell - Looked effing frightening too. But I got the Rineharts because I love the fat pipe look and black tips - heard they sounded assassin and they do. My stock pipes with the baffles drilled out pissed off a guy I knew because my Fashionable sounded better than his BIG TWIN with Screamin' Eagle!! | |
