What are the differences between the Harley Davidson Sportster and the Harley Davidson Dyna? |

The Sportster is a smaller lighter bike with a smaller motor,(883) or (1200) The motor, inform drive and trans are all a shared unit. The Dyna is a "Big Look-alike" 80" (1340) or an 88" for newer models.The motor is a module, the primary drive is a unit and the trans is a unit. The Dyna is a longer ,bigger and heavier bike than the fashionable. Sportsters are ( usually) a first Harley, a stepping stone to a big twin. Some never out grow them but most do. My old lady rode her 1200 for a year or so,then we got her a FXR which is correspond to( But superior ) to the Dyna. These days I see many chicks on big bikes so as a woman you may start on a Sportster and graduate to a Big Combine just like the boys do. And yes guys who ride Sporties from however to time will get some grief for it.

the XLH is a image that is slightly race packaged. Not to say the motor is any different, but it will have a couple of features like duel front reduce speed calipers, slightly different angled bars, sorta almost identical to a motocross type and seat and leg position will be "upright" in the midriff of the bike. The custom will have a little bit more chrome, the bars will up higher and angled back a bit. The residence and leg position will have you slightly butt centered with your legs more " flip". Many riders prefer this. The customs tend to run a little bit more ready money, but not much. They tend have a faster resale attraction unless you seek the other mode. they share the exact motor with only a variation if the XLH is a "R" replica that comes with a two into one factory pipe.Don't get intimated with the nay-Sayers about the sportster effect. Remember HD built their racing reputation on this motor....Get it? Yeah chicks humbug em, mostly because of their nimbleness, not because they are slow. If you buy one under the year 2005, invest in some foam grips, to belittle the buzz and ride safe. Good Luck. | |

The stock sportster gets between 40-50 mpg,now if you sit on it like you stole it and have all the screamin eagle add ons plus a windshield and fully stocked saddle bags and the ol'lady on the back,LOL. You very well could get 35 to 45 mpg...like mine ! Biker G...04 XL1200C | |

Get some longer fork tubes. You can go 4" over without raking the support and it won't effect the handling. The triple trees that are mentioned are for use with extended tubes. Using raked trees with parentage tubes may adversely affect the handling. They were made as an alternative to raking the edging. As for the oil issue, I knew a guy, RIP Greg, that ran an ironhead Sporty with at least 6" over fork tubes and no rake and he rode it for 20 years or richer reconsider and never had any trouble. If you use raked triple trees you will need longer fork tubes. As I said before these trees are an choice to raking the frame. So you can either go 4" over without raking, or go longer and use the raked trees or have the bone structure raked. Since you asked for the cheapest I'd say 4" over tubes would be your greatest bet. | |
