Is it OK to use fully synthetic 2-stroke oil on my 1959 Lambretta LD scooter?
A:(from Todd)
I wouldn't. The up to the minute synthetic oils are usually ester or poly alchlyne glycol (PAG). It could root damage to your engine, especially with seals. Synthetic 2 stroke oils are made for prolonged high RPMs in racing situations. I doubt you'll be dropping a knee at the Isle of Man TT anytime swiftly on this machine.

My guess is that the original recommendation was probably a mineral oil or even castor based output (love the smell of Castrol R or Blendzall). In the USA it would be hard to find, but outside the USA Castrol Paradigmatic Oils (type that in your browser) and ask them via an e-mail questionare. Some of those guys absolutely know old motorcycles. They may even be able to tell you the correct ratio to mix the oil.
