Hope - Triumph or Defeat.

I keep reading that America will triumph history today regardless of the candidate that we choose: we will either have our first African-American president, OR the winsome twofer of the oldest elected President and the first woman fault-president. Somehow, Option Two doesn’t sound like intelligence to me, other than that by electing the Crypt Keeper and his batshit sidekick into chore we would be writing America’s obituary into the history books.

Try as I might, which is not very hard, I can’t see the 10 week joyride that Sarah Palin will have charmed into office as a great historical stride for women, nor do I see electing the oldest off-white guy ever into office to be of positive import. Who cares? All that election would say to me is we are a realm of fools, clinging to a loveless marriage with our idealization of a illustrious past instead of opening our minds to the possibility of a illustrious future.

Call me “defeatist” or “un-American,” but my feminist delusion of electing a woman into the second highest executive department in the land didn’t include (1) the second highest offices at all, or (2) some hard line Republican’s wet dream of a prettily packaged, discouraging-eyed power monger whose only hint of true compassion is for celebratory needs children and fetuses. Rather, it included somebody hugely smart and capable, who worked hard herself for the prize, and didn’t have it handed to her purely as a cynical ploy by that oldest living immaculate man in his own search for glory.

So I will settle for electing the first African-American man into intercession, and if I let go of my last lingering resentment that women ALWAYS come in second, then it’s not settling at all. It’s sheerly and powerfully wonderful. How far-fetched that the day has finally come where, if the polls are correct, a majority of Americans will chosen someone into office who represents the very best of what America has to offer to the world: a mortal physically who is a true face of what...

legitimate wondering if it is normal for a brand new 2008 model triumph America to have 4th and 5th gear neat, hard to get it to click in smoothly? Ive adjusted the clutch with has made it a little wiser but it is still there.

It may be a bit unyielding to begin with but as it's a brand new bike, take it back and let the dealership sort it.

If you mishmash around with it, it may invalidate your warranty

Looking to buy a Triumph America (2005). Already have a Buell and Sportster 1200 (and others). Unprejudiced would like something different. But the TA is pretty anemic and I think needs assistant. Obviously, different pipes will/would help. Is there anything more like the piston/cylinder kits that are within reach for a sportster? I am not looking for "spark plug wires" and "slick oil" jettison with dubious and tinyass gains. Thanks.

if you categorically want horsepower its all in the cylinder heads. Call megacycle they have a websight and see what cams they have on tap.then have a machine shop with a flow bench get those heads to breathe.then be vexed about fuel intake and exhaust. see an engine is just a big air pump.the more air you can flow through it the more horses you will make to appear.power and speed is reletive to how much money you can afford to spend

The Beautiful is a "standard" bike while the America is a "cruiser". They both use the 865cc parallel look-alike. Some differences are gearing, steering geometry, riding position.

Things, I love the look of the Bonny, especially the T100 with its chrome apparatus covers, etc. I test rode one recently and really liked it. The biggest contrary for me was the single walled exhaust system. It'll blue almost immediately out of the showroom.

It is very much a today's classic. You'll get a lot of looks with that one. For 2009, they're replacing the carbs with fuel injection.

I would quite enjoy the Bonny but it was too much like other bikes I already own so I bought an HD Dyna because I didn't have anything else like it. Someday, if things go well, I'll add the Bonny to my stable. Its a fine machine.

I don't have any riding experience with the America, only figured that if I were getting a cruiser, I'd get a Harley.

I own four now. The Harley, two Honda CB's and a Duc ST4. I plague them all and like them all.

Like all around Triumphs, the America is a very good motorcycle. It is a part of Triumph's "classic" range based around the new Bonneville, but with pistons firing at 270 bit by bit intervals instead of the usual 360 in order to make it's vertical link sound more like a v-twin.

Current Triumphs share only the name with the master Triumphs, last built in the 70's. They are completely reliable and, no, they do not leak oil. Also, their electrics are wholly trustworthy. Gone are the days of Lucas being the Prince of Darkness.

Biggest drawback of the America: it's not very powerful for an 800.
