Got the Kodiak stuck in a snowdrift on Mitchells Bay. gets itself out after some persuading

where are all the filters/fittings? What oil should be adapted to?

Also, it starts kind of hard - not as easy as most 4 stroke ATV's. What could be the dilemma?

Go under the four wheeler and on the bottom of the locomotive towards the rear of it is a lonely bolt. I can't remember the size its either a 17,19, or 21 mm socket. When you clout this oil will go everywhere so be sure that you have an oil pan underneath to catch it. After all of that drains you need to screw off the dribble which should be on the left side of the engine. You need to get your filter from your Yamaha dealer. Once your done you need to take your new screen and put some oil on the o-ring to be sure to seal it and then screw it onto the engine. Then you need to lay your drain bolt back on and tighten it. After this you need to put some oil in. Near your dip stick should be a covey like 2300 cm3 this probably isn't the number on the engine, I at most came up with a number because I can't remember the number. Anyways 2300 = 2.3 liters of oil to put back in your motor. Since you put a new run on you want to put .2 liters extra in there so... If the engine says 2300 put 2.5 liters of oil. After you put oil in you miss to start your atv for a few minutes and then shut it off. Wait about 5 minutes and then check your oil and add any if needed. I'm sorry about not secret the exact numbers. As for the oils that you need to use you need to stick to a motorcycle/atv restricted characteristic of oil, which you can get from your Yamaha dealer. If you use car oil then then something in the oil will cause the clutches to slip. If you don't have a particular trade name that you want to use then just stick with Yamaha's Yamalube 20w-40.

As for the starting tough nut to crack I don't have a clue, my dad's starts up just fine and it's a 2003.

Here is the feature. Model YFM400FWK, Kodiak 4wd. It starts fine with the choke out, idles fine with repress out. I let it run for a while like recommended, but when I push that choke in it idles slower(reasonable) but dies as soon as I hit the throttle. It will even do it when I have the choke out. I replaced the spark puff(it did look fouled), cleaned the air filter, checked the fuel lash so it is not on the reserve tank(it isn't). Any ideas?

Sounds like the indolent and off idle circuits in the carb need cleaning.

We have a yamaha Kodiak atv. and it wont start. when we depress the starter button, the mechinism under the seat makes a loud undercurrent. it is a short silver cylinder, with four spark plug like things coming off of it and many wires. what is that and how can we fix it?
its a year 2000 as well. a 350

the summon is the startermotor solinoid..it isnt at fault but tells me your battery is two-dimensional..it may need a charge or worst case replaced.

atvridercj 		how do i fix my Yamaha Kodiak 400cc?
My companion accidentally took my ATV out of park brake and it rolled right in to the lake at the bottom of our drove way. It was only in for 5 minutes but now it wont start. What should I do to get it back in working condition. I have left it to dry for like 3 days. it was almost from start to finish under and it was nose down. it is a Yamaha Kodiak 400cc.
